Dozens of civilians were killed as airstrikes flattened residential buildings in rebel-held east Aleppo on Monday, despite Western warnings of sanctions against Syria and Russia over attacks on the city. Once Syria’s thriving commercial hub, Aleppo has been ravaged by bombing raids and intensifying clashes as President Bashar Assad’s forces fight to capture opposition-held parts of the city. Russian air support of the onslaught, which has destroyed hospitals and other civilian infrastructures, has spurred accusations of potential war crimes and threats of punitive sanctions. World powers are expected to follow up on last-ditch diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict, which has…
With the bewildering UNESCO resolution denying the Jewish connection to Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, and the Western Wall, Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett says that Israel will suspend all cooperation with the United Nations.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) on Thursday passed a resolution ignoring, almost denying, the Jewish connection to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, only referring it as the Al-Haram Al Sharif (the Noble Sanctuary), the name imposed on the sacred plateau after its conquest by Muslims in the 7th century CE. Israel and the Jewish people have a documented history at the site going back thousands of years before that was not at all acknowledged by UNESCO. “To say that Israel has no connection to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall is like saying that China has no connection to…
Many American-Israeli citizens are reconsidering their support of presidential candidate Donald Trump after a leaked 10-year-old video showed the brash billionaire making lewd comments about women. Right-wing Member of Knesset Rabbi Yehudah Glick posted on Twitter that after months of doing his best to believe in Trump, “Enough is enough… I was wrong… Mr. Trump, go home.” A number of liberal Israeli lawmakers also publicly expressed disgust with the Republican nominee. However, Marc Zell, head of the Israeli branch of Republicans Overseas, predicted the current scandal would not lose Trump any votes among American-Israelis. An estimated 200,000 Americans living in Israel have…
The International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem (ICEJ), a pro-Israel Christian global ministry, is sponsoring the first wave of new Ethiopian immigrants to Israel supporting the Israeli government’s commitment to renew Ethiopian Jewish aliyah. Last month, ICEJ gave over $500,000 to Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal to cover airfare for 523 Ethiopian Jews who will arrive in Israel in mid-October just in time to celebrate Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles. ICEJ is working to raise funds to cover the first year of renewed Ethiopian immigration, bringing roughly 1,400 new immigrants to Israel. “Our Christian supporters have always been generous and enthusiastic in…
Palestinian terrorists affiliated with ISIS fired a rocket into southern Israel last Wednesday. The projectile landed on a residential street in the oft-targeted town of Sderot, causing damage but no injuries. The attack was claimed by Ahfad al-Sahaba-Aknaf Bayt al-Maqdis, a Palestinian group that acts as the local Gaza branch of ISIS. The group’s statement was issued in both Arabic and poorly translated Hebrew, which read: “Oh you cowardly Jews: You don’t have safety in our land. [Former defense minister Moshe] Ya’alon, the failure at giving security. [Defense Minister Avigdor] Liberman to fail will be a certainty.” Israeli tanks positioned in…
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that, as far as Israel was concerned, it didn’t matter who wins the upcoming US presidential election. “Both Clinton and Trump talk about their support of Israel, and the importance of the ties between the two countries,” Netanyahu told reporters. “It doesn’t matter which of them will be elected, the support for Israel will remain strong, the alliance will remain strong, and will even get stronger in the coming years.” Netanyahu had recently returned from a visit to New York for the UN General Assembly. While there, he met separately with both of the American presidential…
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a special meeting with over 15 heads of state and representatives from African countries at the United Nations in New York in late September. Prime Minister Netanyahu told his interlocutors that he believes that Israel could be an amazing partner for their countries. He said that technology changes everything from communications, to medicine, to agriculture and education. He noted that Israel wants to share its technology with African countries. The African leaders told Prime Minister Netanyahu that they thanked him and Israel for its cooperation in so many fields. They added that this cooperation was very important…
Courtesy of The New York Times, and as translated from Israel’s Yedioth Achronoth, here are a few of the renowned Israeli statesman and much admired man’s best quotes to honor him in all he has done for Israel. Shimon Peres will not soon be forgotten. “Pessimistic and optimistic people end up the same way, so why not be an optimist?” “I’ve been controversial for most of my life. Suddenly, I’ve become popular. I don’t know when I was wrong, then or now.” “Don’t hate human beings, even those you don’t like so much.” “Sometimes people ask me, ‘What is the greatest…
