In the first two weeks of August, several “lone wolf” terrorist attacks across Israel have injured ten innocent people. The frequency of the attacks has alarmed many people, but security forces are on constant alert. Because of their diligence, no fatalities of innocent Israelis have occurred as a result of these attacks.
Two separate stabbing attacks took place on Saturday. The first took place at a checkpoint in the West Bank, where a Palestinian man approached an IDF soldier to ask for water and then stabbed him when he turned to get the water. The attacker was subdued and taken into custody.
Later in the day, a young Palestinian man stabbed a Border Police officer in the West Bank. The terrorist was killed by security forces who opened fire after the attack.
Eight Israeli civilians were injured in separate and unrelated terrorist attacks earlier in the month. In the last year, incidents of “lone wolf” terrorism attacks have spiked in Israel. These attacks appear to be spontaneous, unorganized eruptions of violence directed at whoever presents an easy target.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stepped up security forces in volatile areas, especially around Jerusalem where the majority of attacks take place. In response to these latest attacks, he issued a warning to anyone who would try to harm Israelis.
