New York City’s most prominent ministers are taking a stand for Israel. These ministers are concerned about the shift away from traditional American support for Israel among the nation’s youth. A recent poll shows that only 18% of Americans between the ages of 18-29 blame Hamas for the current conflict in Gaza. Alarmingly, 29% of these youth blame Israel for the conflict.
These youth view the Palestinians in Gaza as the underdogs, and sympathize with their suffering. According to Rev. Jacques Degraff, however, this is an inaccurate view based on misinformation. Degraff said, “We’re not talking about the Palestinians. We’re talking about Hamas. We’re talking about a group of people sacrificing those who didn’t ask to be sacrificed.”
Along with Rev. Degraff, several New York ministers have spoken at rallies, met with Israeli officials, and written op-ed articles for the media to stand up for Israel during Operation Protective Edge. These leaders want the world to understand that Christians and Jews share a common bond of biblical values, and that America and Israel face the same enemies.
