Abbas says Jews have only themselves to blame for Holocaust

In an incredible anti-Semitic tirade, Israel’s supposedly moderate peace partner, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, blamed the Jews for their own near-annihilation in the Nazi Holocaust.

In a rambling address to the Palestinian National Council in Ramallah on Monday, Abbas insisted that the Holocaust was the result not of Nazi anti-Semitism, but rather the Jews’ “social behavior, [charging]interest, and financial matters.”

It was classic anti-Semitism, through and through. Abbas’ goal was to convince his listeners that the Jewish people have no right to live in the Holy Land, and, apparently, no right to live at all.

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman called Abbas’ verbal onslaught indicative of the true reason Middle East peace has been so elusive.

Abbas “has reached a new low in attributing the cause of massacres of Jewish people over the years to their ‘social behavior relating to interest and banks.’ To all those who think Israel is the reason that we don’t have peace, think again,” Friedman wrote on Twitter.

US President Donald Trump’s special Middle East envoy, Jason Greenblatt, also condemned Abbas, calling his remarks “very unfortunate, very distressing & terribly disheartening. Peace cannot be built on this kind of foundation.”

It should also be pointed out that while Israel’s detractors among the Palestinian Authority often claim they aren’t anti-Semitic, but rather just oppose Israeli policy, Abbas’ outburst proves quite the opposite. It is hatred of the Jews as a people that appears to drive the “Palestinian cause.”
