Netanyahu in northern Israel visit: “We are prepared for any scenario”

In a visit to Israel’s northern border on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Security Cabinet were briefed by IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot and generals of the Northern Command. “We come in peace,” Netanyahu clarified. “But we are prepared for any scenario.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ministers of the Security Cabinet toured the Golan Heights on Tuesday. They were briefed by IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot and generals of the Northern Command.

Netanyahu commended the IDF for its work along Israel’s northern borders. “We come in peace,” Netanyahu clarified in a statement on Tuesday. “But we are prepared for any scenario and I don’t advise anyone to try us.”

The prime minister also addressed the recent terror wave and explained that he had promised the widow of terror victim Rabbi Raziel Shevach that he would avenge the death of her husband, who was murdered last month. “I want to praise the Shin-Bet, the Yamam [counter-terrorism unit] and the IDF who did just that,” said Netanyahu, referring to the elimination of the terrorist in a West Bank operation on Tuesday.

Netanyahu clarified that the same holds for the terrorist who fatally stabbed Itamar Ben-Gal on Monday. “We are all with the family,” the prime minister said. “We are all with the widow.”

Ben-Gal was laid to rest on Tuesday. The terrorist, 19-year-old Abed al-Karim Adel Asi, fled the scene of the attack and is still at large.

Tensions have been recently escalating along Israel’s northern border. Last week, Hezbollah threatened that if the Israeli Defense Ministry does not stop building the barrier wall along the border, the terrorist organization will open fire towards Israel. According to sources in Israel, Hezbollah will pay a “heavy price” if it attempts to escalate tensions in the area.

On Tuesday, Lebanese officials said in a statement that they intend to act both regionally and internationally to prevent Israel from building a wall along its border. Lebanon claimed the barrier wall that has been under construction for several years violates its sovereignty.
